Ceramic versus titanium: meta-analysis finds no difference

A review of nine human studies published in May 2026 compared implants made of zirconia with those made of titanium. It evaluated 435 implants in 323 patients.

The result: comparable survival rates after one, three and five or more years, with no statistically meaningful difference between the materials.

That shifts the question. Anyone choosing between ceramic and titanium is no longer choosing between proven and risky, but on other criteria: aesthetics at the front tooth, the wish for a metal-free restoration, the design – ceramic implants are often one-piece, which makes the treatment run differently.

For the decision in an individual case, the consultation remains what counts.
