Images and findings can often be shown to patients directly on screen and burned to CD to take away for a second opinion.
A simple two-dimensional X-ray allows only a limited analysis of the bone available. In more difficult situations in particular, the decision in favour of an implant procedure should be taken only with the help of three-dimensional imaging. Three-dimensional diagnostics provide a precise picture of bone and soft tissue.
Within dentistry, pre-implant diagnostics and planning account for a large share of the CBCT scans taken. Cone beam computed tomography is now established across the country. It plays a special part in implantology because in critical situations it images the bony starting point and any anatomical peculiarities in detail and in three dimensions. The starting point for a promising implant site in the bone can be assessed far more precisely. The digital data from the scan make it possible to plan guided or template-assisted placement.
